Europeana Story Collecting Weekend ; Migrant Women

Throughout 2018 EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum have been taking part in the Europeana Migration Project as part of this year’s European Year of Cultural Heritage. For their final Story Collection event, they want to focus on collecting your stories on around the theme of Migrant Women.

2018 marks the centenary of women’s achievement of the parliamentary vote in Ireland. At EPIC, they’re celebrating this landmark moment in a number of ways. Their Blazing a Trail exhibition in association with Herstory and the DFAT celebrates the achievements of pioneering Irish women across the globe.

They’re keen to collect new and previously unheard stories of women migrants – whether they be distant relatives whose stories have been passed down from one generation to the next, or contemporary women forging a new path for themselves in Ireland or abroad. We’d also love for you to bring along any objects, artefacts, keepsakes or mementos you may have that help tell your story.

The material collected will be displayed on the Europeana platform, an organisation that seeks to collect and preserve our cultural heritage online to help build an open, creative and knowledgeable society. Their migration project aims to show that the geographical moving of people makes culture richer. It will also become part of EPIC’s collection and will be displayed on our own website too.

Come and visit us at EPIC CHQ and share your stories with us on November 24th + 25th. This event is free to attend and no booking is required. Please note entry and admission to the museum is not included.
