Our daily interactions with people around us can have a lasting effect on who we are, how we see the world and what we hold dear. Volunteering can play a big part in how people choose to spend their time, who they engage with and what issues they decide to act upon, which in turn will shape their attitudes, values and connections – with other people as well as with their direct or wider community.
This impact volunteering can have on people is what Dublin City Volunteer Centre set out to explore with the “Get Connected – Volunteering and Shared Values” project, which is supported by the European Commission as part of the “Europe for Citizens” programme. Along with 3 partner organisations in Belgium, Croatia and Scotland we engaged with potential and active volunteers through a number of “conversation salon” events and research surveys, and followed them as they embarked on their journey as volunteers.
We now invite you to meet some of the volunteers who have been volunteering as part of the Get Connected project over the past few months. The exhibition showcases photographs of volunteers and their activities in Dublin, Belgium, Osijek and across Scotland.
